Analyze and Outperform Your Competitors
Turn competitor analysis into a concrete advantage.
Step 1: Identify Your True Competitors
Not all competitors are the same:
- Direct competitors: Same products/services, same market
- SEO competitors: Rank for your target keywords (may be in different industries)
- Add both types in StratGen for comprehensive analysis
Step 2: Deep-Dive Analysis
For each competitor, analyze:
- Authority metrics: DA, backlinks, referring domains
- Content strategy: What topics they cover, publication frequency
- Keyword portfolio: Their top keywords and new keyword gains
- Traffic trends: Are they growing or declining?
Step 3: Find Weaknesses
Look for:
- Thin content: Topics covered superficially (you can go deeper)
- Outdated content: Old articles not updated (you can create fresher versions)
- Missing topics: Related themes they haven't covered
- Technical issues: Slow site, poor mobile experience
Step 4: Build Your Counter-Strategy
- Target their weak keywords: Keywords where competitors rank with low-quality content
- Fill content gaps: Create better content on topics they've missed
- Steal link opportunities: Find sites linking to competitors and pitch your content
- Outproduce on quality: Longer, more detailed, better-structured content
Step 5: Monitor Progress
- Track your positions vs. competitor positions weekly
- Celebrate when you overtake a competitor for a key term
- Adjust strategy when competitors respond
Tip: Focus on 2-3 competitors max. Trying to beat everyone dilutes your efforts.
